College and Croup

So Dan finally managed to partially revive my old laptop that had kicked it and retrieved some files that I had been wanting. As I was trawling some of my old documents, I came upon a paper that I wrote for Advanced Comp in college. My thesis was something along the lines of feminists overshooting their goals to the point where men are afraid to be gentlemen, women are afraid to be stay-at-home moms if that's what they want, and so on and so forth. Apparently I was having too much fun writing this paper, because for an academic endeavor, it was brimming with buoyant sarcasm and "witty" little anecdotes. I think I just crack myself up too much and probably managed to just confuse and annoy my professor in the process. For example:

"We need to make sure we know what we want when asking for something like equality. Comparing men and women may be similar to comparing coffee cups and socks. Both are equally useful, but what happens when you ask a sock to function as a coffee cup, or a coffee cup to function as a sock? Neither end up being of much use. Could both have their place in the same circles? Certainly. I am always happy to wear socks while sipping my coffee. But I hope I would not be so foolish as to switch up their roles."

Cute. I considered posting a link to the whole paper for your amusement, as it is full of such gems, along with bold mention of various body parts which I'm sure I derived a daring tee-hee from including. oh college. But I don't really need the embarrassment, and you probably wouldn't experience as much amusement in reviewing one of my old college papers as I do.
It was a bit nostalgic reviewing some of the papers, actually. I came upon one that I remember putting an obscene amount of effort and rewrites into, just to produce a small, succinct little paper on one of the Canterbury Tales. I really had a soft spot for Chaucer once upon a time and it was nice to relive it. I'm glad I was an English Lit major (I was particularly fond of the Lit bit). Stumbling across these memories while being out of college and home with my son doesn't make me feel like I've lost anything...I can still read Chaucer :)

Anyway, on the homefront, we've had a sad boy with croup this week that made his mama very scared, but he is fortunately recovering. There were some long nights and a few long days this week, but thank God he is getting better. I'm pretty sure he caught virus on top of virus...so let's hope this is it for awhile!
Ciao.
